Is teamLab Planets good for kids?

Updated October 27, 2026

Quick answer

Yes, with some planning. Children aged 4 to 12 pay ¥1,500 (about $10) and children 3 and under go free; every child under 13 must enter with a guardian aged 18 or over, and there must be one adult for every three children, free ones included (official ticket table and notes, checked 27 October 2026).

The museum is built around water, dark rooms and soft floors, and it has a whole area of play-based works, the Athletics Forest. The constraints are practical: strollers stay outside, small children may get soaked, and children shorter than a set inseam cannot walk the main koi water work on their own.

Child and junior prices

The official Entrance Pass has four age bands: adults 18 and over from ¥3,800 (about $24), junior high and high school students ¥2,800 (about $18), children aged 4 to 12 ¥1,500 (about $10), and 3 and under free. The ¥12,000 (about $76) Premium Pass is one price for adults and children aged 4 and over. Staff may ask for ID for the junior ticket: any student ID from any country is accepted, or a passport. Free under-4s still count toward the one-adult-per-three-children rule.

Toddlers in the water rooms

Water reaches knee height for adults, which is much deeper on a small child. For safety and hygiene, anyone with an inseam under 40 cm cannot walk Drawing on the Water Surface Created by the Dance of Koi and People on their own, but can take part if a guardian carries them or uses a baby carrier (official notes). The museum recommends that small children wear clothes they do not mind getting wet, or that you bring a change: a child in wet clothes is not allowed into the next artwork until they have changed. Towels are available at the exit of the water works.

Strollers, baby carriers and lockers

Strollers are not allowed inside. Leave them in the stroller parking outside the building, where you can lock them with a wire key. Front baby carriers are allowed. Diaper changing tables are in the restrooms, and a first-aid room is available for breastfeeding or rest; ask staff. Bags go in the free lockers after the entrance gate, 23 × 34 × 37 cm each, so pack the spare clothes in something that fits.

The dark rooms and the play area

Some areas are dark and one has strong flashing light, and the museum asks visitors with children never to let go of their hand. There are detour routes if a child is frightened or you want to skip a work: tell a member of staff. The Athletics Forest is the part made for children, with works such as Catching and Collecting Extinct Forest, played with the teamLab app, and Graffiti Nature, a drawing work. The creatures children draw there can be made into a badge, T-shirt or tote bag to take home at the Sketch Factory (teamLab).

Book a family visit

Book a weekday morning if you can, so the queue is short for small legs. The child price is only on the official Ticket Store and its partners that sell age bands; check which ticket types a booking partner offers before you pay. If you prefer a guide, the Odaiba tour runs as a private group for up to 15 people. Compare every option on our teamLab Planets ticket price page.
